I have witnessed all too often with friends, family, clients and of course in my own life, how easy it is to slip into that space of uncertainty. Not knowing how the moment, the day, a project, a relationship, a plan etc., is unfolding. You KNOW that you CAN do something but somehow deep down inside it FEELS doubtful. Unfortunately it is this ‘little guy’ causing ‘big’ problems, coming in the form of recurring behavior patterns. Our ability to move forward is blocked. We keep coming back to the same place. One coaching client was never quite getting where he wanted to be with his career/income. He would take steps without the desired success. He could be doing more, but deep down inside that little voice would remain negative feeding the thought "What’s the point, you do not really know how".
I have asked myself the question, "What is making this so difficult for me?" Once able to identify the thought creating this block, I then coached myself through the actual obstacle. I did try to find someone/something else to blame! I realized it was me, fueled by my fears. Being honest and acknowledging that I WAS STANDING IN MY WAY with a thought pattern. Our fears are fed by underlying beliefs. The limiting beliefs make us repeat patterns which hinder our progress.
Our fears need to be managed. Once we have found the best way to manage them, some may slowly evaporate with new behavior in place. More deep rooted fears take longer. BUT they CAN BE managed. The fear is no longer ruling you, it is under control. Some fears might never go away but they CAN be managed. We CAN be in the driving seat of our life. Nobody ever said it was going to be easy but we CAN handle it.
The way out of this maze of blocking behavior patterns is awareness. Find out specifically which thought is driving the pattern. By becoming aware, you are in the position to slowly start taking small steps to change the behavior. I emphasize small steps and slowly. In my experience any changes that have occurred too quickly have been made mostly in the mind. For a behavior pattern to be changed we must be patient and kind with ourselves. It takes time. The mind and the emotional body need to work together on this one.
If you are ready for support to raise your awareness, plus help and encouragement to break the pattern, this is a good time to think about coaching.
What is the difference between someone who seems to do it all with great ease, and the person who keeps stumbling?
In my opinion one of them is in charge of his thought patterns and has found the tools to manage the ones that weaken him.
The other has not reached the awareness level of what is possible. This person might not have accepted the fact that life IS difficult. To make it easier we learn how to manage it. We can be living our life instead of finding that life is living us.
